WB Reportedly Looking To Cast Ewan McGregor Or Sharlto Copley As Birds of Prey’s Villain

It's been a busy day for DC fans. Warner Brothers just officially cast Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, 10 Cloverfield Lane)as Huntress and Jurnee Smollett-Bell (The Great Debaters, Temptations: Confessions) as Black Canary for Birds of Prey today.

Now, it looks like the studio is looking to nab Ewan McGregor or Sharlto Copley for the movie.

Variety writer Justin Kroll just recently took to Twitter to announce that Warner Brothers has been hoping that they could tap either McGregor or Copley for the villain role in the studio's upcoming all-female superhero team-up movie.

We're not really sure whether either of the actors has met the studio to talk about the part and work out negotiations. Kroll notes that meetings for the Birds of Prey have just begun so it might be a bit too early to guess who'd end up with the part.

Though McGregor is definitely the bigger name between the two; having starred in the Star Wars prequel series and in Trainspotting, Copley would also make a great Black Mask after starring in Neill Blompkamp's various projects.

Warner Brothers also has yet to confirm the villain they're casting for the film, however, early rumors say that Birds of Prey's baddie might actually be Black Mask. For those who aren't familiar with the character, Roman Sionis, otherwise known as Black Mask, is a terrifyingly brutal and ruthless Gotham City crime lord with a fixation for masks. One of the most enduring enemies of Gotham's Dark Knight, Black Mask derives sadistic enjoyment from torturing his victims.

Birds of Prey is set to premiere on February 7, 2020.
