Watchmen Showrunner Damon Lindelof Reportedly Working on Star Wars Movie

There are a lot of Star Wars movies that are currently in the works at Lucasfilm whether it's Patty Jenkins's Rogue Squadron, Taika Waititi's project, or the Rian Johnson trilogy. However, we haven't heard many updates about them except that they have either been put on pause or allegedly scrapped. It is in contrast to the TV shows where the franchise is thriving at the moment. As Lucasfilm is currently figuring out the future of the franchise (at least on the film side), it looks like they have hired a prominent writer to work on yet again another Star Wars feature project.

The Ankler has reported that Damon Lindelof, the Emmy-winning writer and producer behind shows such as Lost, The Leftovers, and Watchmen, is currently working on a Star Wars movie. However, there are no details yet regarding its plot or if there's a director attached and a co-writer who is working with Lindelof on the script.

Lindelof's reported involvement in the franchise comes after winning multiple Emmys for the acclaimed HBO limited series Watchmen. He also co-created The Leftovers and Lost. On the feature film side, he worked as a co-writer on several hit films such as Star Trek, Cowboys & Aliens, Prometheus, Star Trek Into Darkness, World War Z, Tomorrowland, and The Hunt. He has expressed in several interviews that he is interested to be involved in the Star Wars franchise.

It is interesting to hear that Lucasfilm has hired Lindelof to write a Star Wars film which adds to the numerous feature slate of the franchise that is currently in development. He is definitely a great choice as a writer of the franchise's potential next film given his body of work and has experience in working in a lot of science-fiction or space-based stories. It would be interesting to hear what kind of era this film will set in whether it's after the sequel trilogy or a timeline like the High Republic.

However, we do have to be cautious about this since Lucasfilm has been notorious for working on Star Wars film projects that will end up getting canceled or put on hold. There is still a chance that this project might go in the same fate as the others in the future.
