Watch Star Wars Kabuki Starring Ichikawa Ebizo as Kylo Ren

Do you need something to make the wait for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker a lot easier? The epic Star Wars Kabuki focusing on Kylo Ren can now be viewed online and it features an epic performance from Ichikawa Ebizo.

The Japanese stage adaptation is a one-night event that celebrates the upcoming premiere of The Rise of Skywalker. The stageplay is titled Rennosuke and the Three Light Sabers isn't actually an adaptation of the sequel trilogy. Instead, it restructures the script for Kabuki and replaces some of the characters in the franchise. For instance, Kylo is presented as the samurai Kairennosuke. Watch the full play below.

It's cool to see that although most characters have been replaced in the stageplay, C-3PO looks exactly the same. Ichikawa's character also wields a familiar-looking samurai. Although most of the story is completely changed, there's still an epic throne room sequence where Kairennosuke betrays Supreme Leader Snoke.

Overall, it's an astounding presentation that masterfully incorporates Star Wars into the world of Kabuki. Ichikawa is also excellent as Kairennosuke who appears to be a more likable version of Kylo. It's just unfortunate that the stageplay is a one-night event but we're still glad to be able to watch it online.

The real Kylo Ren is played by Adam Driver in the sequel trilogy. Driver is set to return in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which may or may not give the character a redemption arc. The film will premiere on December 20.
