Watch: Rick and Morty Art Director Makes a Style-Guide in Drawing Characters for the Show

We still don’t have an official release date for Rick and Morty 4, but in the meantime, Adult Swim has been releasing some fun BTS snippets and short clips to keep us entertained. The latest one has the show’s art director Jeffrey Thompson give us a few tips on the style of characters in the show.

I never realized this before, but Rick and Morty does have a tendency to include side characters that have misplaced eyes—all for the sake of making them look more unique to the show. There’s also some tips on how to get Morty’s features right, and some rules on drawing an accurate Rick.

I just think it’s hilarious that one of the show’s artist came up with a “tri-brow” Rick. Hopefully it makes it into the show, if he hasn’t already been some kind of obscure Easter Egg in the past seasons.

Like I said, we don’t have a release date or the fourth season of Rick and Morty yet, but rest-assured the show is underway. After what seemed like a long negotiation, Adult Swim finally greenlit the show for 70 more episodes. Now the question is just when those episodes will actually arrive or how the showrunners plan to split it into seasons.

I’ll admit, I’m happy to see more Rick and Morty down the line, but too many episodes could mean a downgrade in quality. I’m just crossing my fingers that the creative team behind the show don’t exhaust themselves too much and manage to give us memorable episodes as the show goes along.

Rick and Morty 4 have no release date, but people are suspecting it will premiere sometime in 2019.
