M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass has finally arrived in theaters after 19 years since Unbreakable. No one was expecting Split to be a sequel to the film, but as it turns out, comedy sitcom Parks and Recreation had predicted an Unbreakable sequel.
Check out this clip of Tom (Aziz Ansari) reading a bunch of his tweets in court. In one of them, he mentions Unbreakable and wonders out loud why there hasn’t been a sequel:
That episode aired back in 2012, four years before the release of Split and seven years before the release of Glass. With Unbreakable being part of the superhero genre of films, you would expect that it would have gotten a sequel earlier, but for some reason, Shyamalan had only decided recently to revisit the world.
While Shyamalan did impress the critics with his work on Split, he has found another low when it comes to the release of Glass. The movie has been panned by several critics since it came out, and it currently sits at a 37% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Either way, I always say it’s best to watch movies for yourself instead of listening to the critics. I missed out on Man from UNCLE reboot since critics said it was terrible, but after I checked it out, I found it was a fantastic movie. Maybe some huge clump of Shymalan fans will still love what they get with Glass.
Catch Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, and James McAvoy in Glass, now in theaters.
