New Clip from Star Trek: Lower Decks Introduces New Characters

The animated Star Trek: Lower Decks makes its debut on CBS All Access today, and if you're still on the fence about whether to check it out, we have a new clip introducing us to characters Ensigns Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome), Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid), and D'Vana Tendi (Noel Wells).

This comes from Entertainment Tonight, and you can watch it here.

I have to say, just from this scene, the dynamic between the characters is already pretty clear. We know that Tendi is going to be the newbie of the ship who is excited about everything with Boimler acting all-important despite working on the lower deck. The series lead looks to be Mariner, who seems to be the cocky Kirk-type, but she seems to be pretty pleased with where she is, and based on the trailer, she looks pretty capable.

You also really have to love the Rick and Morty vibe of the show. While that series tends to parody things like Trek, it's pretty insane when Trek fires back and has a completely canon show that feels like an adult cartoon.

Though Star Trek may have taken a hiatus in the box office, things look to be booming on the TV side of things. We have several live-action shows like Discovery, Picard, and Strange New Worlds, plus we have this more experimental take with Lower Decks. There's even work going on for a kids show called Star Trek: Prodigy.
