Watch: Every Easter Egg and Reference in Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse

If you thought live-action comic book films had a lot of Easter Eggs, just imagine how much can be crammed into an animated movie. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse had just hit theaters, and Mr. Sunday Movies has released a thorough breakdown of every Easter Egg and reference in the film.

For one, the film has a lot of nods to the comic, from classic covers to several costume designs. It’s even cool how the movie managed to use the dotted technique of coloring and apply it to animation. The blonde Spidey in the beginning is also a reference to Ben Reilly, Peter Parker’s clone and the Scarlet Spider.

Besides that, we also get some real-world references to Spider-Man when it comes to merch, and there are also several callbacks to the live-action movies—specifically the Raimi ones. We have a clip of Spider-Man stopping a train (Spider-Man 2), the upside-down kiss (Spider-Man 1), and the infamous dance sequence from Spider-Man 3.

For now Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is being praised as the best animated movie of the year; in fact, some are even contesting it to be the best Spider-Man movie ever made. Personally, after a film like Venom, I think Sony made a really good move making this movie, and it’s success could be opening the comic book genre into more experimental movies in the future.

Bitten by a radioactive spider in the subway, Brooklyn teenager Miles Morales suddenly develops mysterious powers that transform him into the one and only Spider-Man. When he meets Peter Parker, he soon realizes that there are many others who share his special, high-flying talents. Miles must now use his newfound skills to battle the evil Kingpin, a hulking madman who can open portals to other universes and pull different versions of Spider-Man into our world.

Catch Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in theaters now.
