Watch: Dubious Champion Magic: The Gathering Modern Combo Deck Tech

Japanese Magic: The Gathering player Nishiguchi Yoshinori put together a spicy combo Modern deck that managed to get an undefeated finish in a small Magic tournament. Saffron Olive of MTGGoldfish made a neat Instant Deck Tech that explains the strategy of this  "Dubious Champion" deck. The deck's goal is to play Dubious Challenge early in the game. To do that, the deck packs cards that allow you to ramp and play the 4-mana Sorcery as early as Turn 2.

The deck's big finishers are Emrakul, Aeons Torn and Iona, Shield of Emeria but since Dubious Challenge's effect lets your opponent chooses first, you'd need cards like Flickerwisp and Brooding Saurian to get your finishers under your control if your opponents choose them. The deck also runs Champion of Rhonas which synergizes well with Flickerwisp.

At the time of this writing, the whole deck would cost about $455 USD, which is at the lower end compared to most Modern decks. The deck's strategy is a lot similar to decks like Through the Breach or Goryo's Vengeance decks but this one seems to rely more on luck.
