A lot of Pokemon fans had fell in love with Pokemon: The First Movie when it came out in 1999, and though the film doesn’t hold up, we’re set to have a CG-animated remake in the form of Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution. With the movie coming out today, here’s a video comparing scenes from the original film to the updated 3D one.

I have to admit, the animation style on the main characters in 3D is kind of weird to me, but there is definitely a lot to love about this new look. The scenery just seems a lot more grandiose, and you have to love how they managed to recreate some of the scenes.
With Detective Pikachu ushering in a new standard for Pokemon movies, I’m excited to see what’s in store for the future of the franchise. I bet this new movie will bring in a new generation of fans who didn’t grow up in the 90s to love this story in the Pokemon lore, and maybe it can pave the way for more CG-animated Pokemon films.
Let’s just hope they find a better way to make the characters in 3D because I think the style in this film is kind of iffy. But that’s just my opinion.
After a scientific experiment leads to the creation of a clone of Mewtwo, he sets out to destroy the world. Ash and his friends then decide to thwart Mewtwo's evil plans.
Catch Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution now on Netflix.
