There’s no doubt that Lucasfilm is doing their best to make the final season of The Clone Wars memorable, and with the final duel between Ahsoka and Maul, they decided to bring in actual Maul actor Ray Park to do the fight choreography. WhileClone Wars Downloadgave us a peak, we now have a better look at the work that went behind Clone Wars’ latest duel.

Dave Filoni, executive producer and supervising director of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, along with cast and crew, discuss the making of Maul and Ahsoka Tano's climactic battle on Mandalore.

What’s amazing is that this is the first time that the team has used motion capture to bring a fight to life. One of my gripes with The Clone Wars has always been how unnatural the lightsaber fights feel, because they aren’t as fluid as the ones we see in the films. Here, we actually see a lot of Maul’s movements have an added sense of realism to them. Too bad they waited until this final season to make something like this happen.

For now, The Clone Wars is building up to their final episode where the show will finally overlap with the events of Revenge of the Sith. We don’t really know what to expect, but we should be able to see how Ahsoka and Rex react to the purge. If we’re lucky, maybe we can see more of Obi-Wan’s side, or maybe even Anakin’s story from a different viewpoint.

Fingers crossed little Cal Kestis from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order makes a cameo.

The Clone Wars finale is set to air on Disney+ on May 4.
