Warner Brothers Chief Says Aquaman Strikes The Perfect Balance Between Fun And Jeopardy

There might have been growing excitement over the DC Extended Universe's Aquaman, however, ever since early reactions to test screenings of the film have made their way online, and fans found themselves feeling a bit concerned over Jason Momoa's first standalone movie as Arthur Curry.

Now, speaking in an interview with Variety, Warner Brothers Pictures Group President Toby Emmerich tries to assuage these concerns. Not only does Emmerich say that director James Wan has managed to strike a great balance between "fun and jeopardy" in Aquaman, he also tells fans that the world Wan's creative team built in the film is literally "unlike any world we've seen on film before."

"It's not too hot or too cold — [Wan] struck a great balance between fun and jeopardy, edge and wonder, comedy, and tragedy," Emmerich told the publication, "James created a totally original underwater universe. Just as Patty Jenkins did with Themyscira, James' Atlantis is cool and compelling — unlike any world we've seen on film before, in a superhero movie or any other."

Hearing from Emmerich that we're going to see a "cool and compelling" underwater universe is pretty comforting knowing that early reviews to Aquaman say that the film is "good" but not that "great." Hopefully, after taking in early reviews from critics, Warner Brothers will be able to tweak Aquaman and help it stand out in the sea of comic book movies.

After all, the studio's burgeoning superhero franchise desperately needs a new win after the failings of Suicide Squad and Justice League.

Starring Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Willem Dafoe, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Temuera Morrison and Dolph Lundgren, Aquaman is set to swim to cinemas on December 21, 2018.
