The VTuber Legend release date is official, as it was confirmed alongside the release of a brand-new promo video.
Aside from its premiere date, the trailer also came with other details, including new cast members. Plus, the trailer also shows off new footage, mostly featuring the main character Awayuki Kokorone.
This is not the first time that a VTuber is the center of attention in an anime, but it goes to show just how intertwined the VTubing and anime industries are.
VTuber Legend Release Date and Schedule Revealed
VTuber Legend is a light novel series that began back in May 2021. Nearly two years later, the series was confirmed to be getting an anime adaptation.
Since then, more details have been revealed, not to mention that an actual VTuber channel was made to promote it.
Finally, the VTuber Legend anime’s July 7 release date was announced in a new trailer. While Awayuki Kokorone (voiced by My Hero Academia's Ayane Sakura) is the center of attention, more new cast members have been announced.
These include Azusa Tadokoro (Azusa Sasaki in Sound Euphonium), M.A.O. (Shion in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime), and Ai Kayano (Darkness in KonoSuba).
Also previewed in the trailer is the show’s opening theme titled Virtual Show Time!, which is performed by Sakura.
Given its July 7 release, fans can expect one new episode to be released every Sunday during the summer 2024 season. For now, there’s no word yet on how many episodes the first season will have.
Where to Watch and Stream the VTuber Legend Anime
The anime will air in Japan on various networks, including Tokyo MX, KBS Kyoto, Sun TV, AT-X, and BS NTV.
There’s no word yet on a streaming platform partner for the anime outside of Japan, though chances are that it will be released in the US either on HIDIVE or Crunchyroll.
It’s possible that it will air on HIDIVE given that shows such as Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night and Oshi no Ko are streamed there. After all, both these shows also feature VTubers and other aspects of the modern entertainment industry.
VTubers Continue to Invade Anime in This New Show
Since VTubers exploded in popularity in 2020, many anime and manga have begun incorporating VTubers. This latest anime puts them front and center.
VTuber Legend follows the VTuber Awayuki Kokorone who goes off-character and cracks open some drinks, thinking she already ended her stream.
While she thought this would spell the end of her career, it turns out that this made her hugely popular.
