Victoria Alonso Reportedly Had Conflict with Marvel Studios Over Ant-Man 3 Scene

Recently, Victoria Alonso was unexpectedly fired by Disney from her position as the President of Physical, Post Production, VFX, and Animation at Marvel Studios. A lot of fans and people within Hollywood were surprised by the news considering that the executive was a prominent figure in the studio.

Now, details are starting to emerge about the reason behind Alonso's firing from the studio where reports claimed that it was due to a breach of contract as a result of her involvement as the producer of Argentina, 1985 from Amazon Studios, a rival studio of Disney.

However, Alonso's lawyer Patty Glaser disputed the claims and called out Disney for silencing the former Marvel Studios executive and claimed that she was fired because of her refusal to do an action that she believed was "reprehensible."

"Victoria, a gay Latina who had the courage to criticize Disney, was silenced. Then she was terminated when she refused to do something she believed was reprehensible," Glaser said in the statement.

Now, a new report from The Hollywood Reporter gave some insights about the "reprehensible" situation that Glaser referenced in the statement where insiders claimed that it might be potentially because of a conflict that Alonso had with her colleagues at Marvel Studios regarding a minor scene in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

The report explained that back when the film was being readied for release, Marvel Studios executives wanted an editor to blur a storefront window that featured rainbow decorations and the word “Pride” in a scene for a version that will be released in Kuwait, which has restrictive anti-LGBTQ laws.

When Alonso found out about the request, she refused to have her team fulfill it, and, as a result, the studio went to an outside vendor to do the edit instead. Aside from the pride reference, they also made edits on references to alcohol and removed the animated butt cheeks of M.O.D.O.K.

This won't be the first time that Disney made edits on their films that have LGBTQ references for the Kuwaiti release as they made a similar action on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Meanwhile, Lightyear and Eternals were banned due to the films' integral inclusion of LGBTQ references.

It is unclear whether the situation was part of the "smoking gun" that led to Alonso's firing in the studio, but it is an indication that there were internal conflicts within the studio before the executive was sacked. There were also speculations that the issues within the VFX community may have contributed to her firing, but it was dismissed by the reports.
