Venom's Tom Hardy Appears for a Short ESPN Commercial

Venom is set to come out early October, and Sony is slowly starting to push the marketing for the film harder. Their latest partnership comes with ESPN, and this new commercial has Tom Hardy transforming into Venom for a mascot audition.

Check it out:

Admittedly, the CGI is terrible, but it's understandable counting that this is just a short ad. I'm amazed they even got Hardy to appear, but I'm guessing it's stock footage from the film and they just made the ad around it.

When the latest trailer came out, it was met with a mixed reception. Admittedly Venom looks pretty cool even without the white spider logo, but the lines that he's been spouting have lead people to question the film. The ‘so many snacks' line gets a pass since it comes from the comics, but the ‘turd in the wind' line has become so infamously terrible.

In the end, it looks like Venom will decide whether Sony will continue to push these spinoffs featuring Spider-Man characters. Besides Venom, you have Morbius the Living Vampire with Jared Leto; plus it's said that there are movies in the works focused on Kraven the Hunter, Black Cat, and Silver Sable.

Personally, I'll only be invested if we get confirmation that these films take place in the MCU. Other than that, I think Sony should just save all these characters for Spider-Man to deal with somewhere down the line. I can see Tom Holland helming an entire saga of Spider-Man movies.

Catch Venom in theaters Oct. 5.
