Venom was Supposed to have a Scene in the Symbiote Planet

Though the Venom movie focuses a lot on the symbiotes crash-landing on Earth and how they affect humans, we get very little on their background as well as their place of origin. According to director Ruben Fleischer, the film was supposed to open with a short look at the planet of the symbiotes.

Talking to CinemaBlend, Fleischer explains:

"The beginning of the movie was a hard one. Like, how much do we want to tell the backstory? There was a version [of the opening] where there was a planet crawling with tons of symbiotes that were collected and taken back to Earth by the Life Foundation. They had encountered them. But it kind of felt like, my instinct was it would be better to keep it more mysterious and just know that they've retrieved something from space. We don't know exactly by what means or how. Jenny [Slate]'s character later says they encountered it on a comet that was passing, and they retrieved these samples and brought it back to Earth. But yeah, I thought it was better just leave it a little bit mysterious, the backstory of the aliens."

If anything, leaving the backstory open kind of makes the symbiotes a lot scarier. Looking at last year's IT reboot, they decided to leave out Pennywise's alien origin in order to make him a lot more mysterious to the audiences. The same could have been said for Venom, but then again, I don't think that horror was the tone the movie was looking for at all.

When you watch the movie, you'll actually find that a lot of the character motivation happens through exposition. The symbiotes' plan to dominate the earth is simply just said to Eddie Brock, and Venom just casually explains that he prefers to stay on Earth because he was a ‘loser' back in his planet.

It's admittedly a ridiculous film, but you can still have fun as long as you don't take it too seriously.
