Venom Producer Has a Very Good Reason For Not Including Carnage

Venom might not have been a hit with the critics but fans sure love it, as the film managed to do well in the box office two weekends in a row. A sequel to the movie is inevitable so it's good to know that the post-credit sequence that was shown will have a purpose. Had it bombed, a lot of fans would have been disappointed when you consider who shows up in that post-credit scene.

Now that we know Carnage's human form exists in this universe, fans can look forward to their upcoming battle in a sequel. However, some fans were initially disappointed that we would not be getting Carnage in the first film since he is the character's most well-known adversary. Even the biggest Venom fan wouldn't defend Riot, who is just a lackluster villain.

However, Matt Tolmach, one of the Venom producers, was asked about not having Carnage appear in the film and he gave a very good answer to Collider. Simply put, they already had to deal with Venom's origin in this movie and having to shoe-in Carnage's origin would have been overkill. Need proof? Look at Amazing Spider-Man 2 and how much of a mess that was.

You have two origins, and it really limits. We thought about it long and hard. It limits what you can do with the origin of Venom. So, what do you do with that? Well, then the movie itself becomes the origin of Venom, and then Carnage enters the equation. That was always the idea, that you would be setting it up, from the very beginning.

Saving Carnage for a sequel was the best move since it can get fans pumped up for that character's origin. Add in the fact that Woody Harrelson will be playing the character and it looks like we're in for a much better sequel. Now that all of the characterization for Eddie and Venom is done, expect Carnage to steal some of the spotlight.

Venom might still be showing in theaters.
