Venom Director Acknowledges Huge Plot Hole Regarding Riot

Venom can hardly be considered a "good" movie but a lot of people really seem to like it, thanks to how the symbiote was presented and some of the dark humor that took place. While a lot of people do seem to like it, those box office numbers don't lie, no one can deny that the movie is filled with problems. Some of these are down to the filmmaking and others are due to the writing.

Director Ruben Fleischer discussed this during an interview with GameSpot, where he acknowledged one of the movie's biggest flaws; the Riot symbiote possessing a fragile old woman for six months to stay alive.

Fleischer flat out admits that it was a plot hole and doesn't bother trying to come up with a clever explanation, which is refreshing. He feels that it's one of the film's few plot holes, with everything else making sense within the story. That can be debated for days, maybe even weeks, but the fact that he can admit that a mistake was made makes him seem humble.

"Our idea was that Riot was using up the life force of whoever he took, and then he jumped ship when he'd consumed them and then find a new host to carry him further on his journey. Yeah, that's a good question. That's one of our few--hopefully--few logic bumps. But we had to have a passage of time in order to show Eddie's downfall, and that was the one thing that doesn't entirely track."

Early on, we see Riot possess a person who had survived a car crash and it later transferred itself to the aforementioned older woman in Malaysia. Six months pass to show that Eddie Brock's life sucks now and we still see this old woman alive and kicking with the symbiote, which makes no sense. Yes, it takes hold of a little girl before heading to the main villain but that is a lot of time.

Venom is still showing in theaters.
