Jordan Peele's Us Expected To Topple Captain Marvel At The Box Office This Weekend

Captain Marvel might have been soaring faster, higher, and further at the box office the past two weeks, but after its critically-acclaimed premiere at SXSW, Jordan Peele's new movie Us is expected to take the top spot from Brie Larson's outing as Carol Danvers.

According to a new report by Deadline, Hollywood industry analysts are all expecting that Us is going to overtake Captain Marvel this weekend. The follow-up to the Oscar-nominated horror movie Get Out is projected for a $45 to $50 million opening weekend. Meanwhile, Captain Marvel is expected to drop to around $40 million during its third weekend in cinemas.

Us' tracking is doing the best with women under 25 as well as with African Americans.

There's definitely a lot of anticipation over Us. Fans were thrilled by the film's trailer, and word on the street says that Us requires repeat viewings because of its fascinating ending. The film has been enjoying overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics ever since its Global premiere. Us has had a perfect critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, though it's already dropped to a highly commendable 99 percent on the review aggregate site.

Like Get Out which received a strong word-of-mouth reaction during its release back in 2017, analysts expect Us to do very well when it premieres, drawing in viewers with great reviews that are making the rounds online.

While Marvel fans might be disappointed to see Captain Marvel dethroned, the strong tracking for Us is welcome news for Peele's fans.

Us hits cinemas March 22.
