Universal Pictures Developing Green Hornet and Kato Movie

A few months ago, Amasia Entertainment announced that it had acquired the feature film rights to the classic comic book hero the Green Hornet. Though it didn't announce a movie back then, production house had every intention to rebooting the character for the big screen.

Now, it looks like Amasia Entertainment has found a new studio partner to develop its Green Hornet movie.

According to a report by Variety, Universal Pictures is developing a Green Hornet and Kato movie together with Amasia Entertainment. While there aren't any filmmakers, stars, or writers attached to the project just yet, Universal wants to let The Green Hornet fans know that the project is currently in development.

"The Green Hornet is one of the most iconic and beloved superhero tales ever created, and it has entertained generations of fans in every form of storytelling," Peter Cramer, the president of Universal Studios said in a statement. "We are thrilled to be partnering with Michael, Bradley, and the entire Amasia team to launch an exciting new cinematic world for Britt Reid, Kato, and the Black Beauty, and we can't wait to share it with global audiences soon."

Amasia is excited to give Green Hornet a new home together with Universal. According to Amasia co-founder Michael Helfant, the studio shares the production house's enthusiasm for the property. Both companies want to give fans a film that they can love and future fans a film to discover.

For those who aren't familiar with the character, Green Hornet is the superhero alias of newspaper publisher Britt Reid who moonlights as a masked hero by night. He fights together with a sidekick or driver named Kato.

Universal's Green Hornet movie has yet to receive a release date but we'll update fans as soon as we get word.
