Under Ninja is a new anime by Tezuka Productions, the studio behind shows such as The Quintessential Quintuplets Season 1 and My Home Hero.

As with most of the studio’s recent projects, Under Ninja is based on an ongoing manga by Kengo Hanazawa, the creator of I Am a Hero, a zombie manga that was adapted into a live-action film some years ago.

As for its story, the show is set in an alternate history where the Allied Command in Japan set up an agency to combat terrorism in the region after World War II. This agency is composed mostly of ninjas.

Soon, the agency grew in size to the point that it managed 20,000 ninjas. Among these is Kuro Kumogakure, a high school NEET who is tasked to infiltrate a high school. Soon, all sorts of ninja hijinks ensue.

Story-wise, this new anime is already quite different from most seasonal anime.

Upon the first episode’s release, it turns out that the show might just have what it takes to be this season’s weirdest.

Meanwhile, viewers are also finding its ridiculous story to be quite fun in a similar way to other ridiculous titles like Prison School.

Finally, a lot of viewers said that they find the deadpan acting and line delivery to add to the show’s weird and unique appeal.

Based on the first episode, this show might not be for everyone, but anime fans who want something different should definitely give Under Ninja a try.
