It has been public knowledge that Umbrella Academy star Ellen Page was gay for a while, but she (or rather he) has just made a huge step and revealed their new transgender identity—Elliot Page.
Page announced on his Instagram account:
GLAAD's director of transgender media Nick Adams (via Variety) had said about Page's coming out, "Elliot Page has given us fantastic characters on-screen, and has been an outspoken advocate for all LGBTQ people. He will now be an inspiration to countless trans and non-binary people. All transgender people deserve the chance to be themselves and to be accepted for who we are. We celebrate the remarkable Elliot Page today."
Though Page is best known today for her role as Vanya Hargeeves in Netflix's Umbrella Academy, he has played a lot of great roles from Christopher Nolan's Inception to Juno which actually got him the Oscar nomination for best actress.
We don't really know how Page plans to move forward with his career, especially since a lot of the characters that he's been known for have been women. I suspect that things could probably move forward the same as before, but maybe Page would be more selective this time around when it comes to his choice of roles. Who knows, maybe he can take over that role of a trans gangster in Rub and Tug that was supposed to be played by Scarlett Johansson.
For now, you can catch Page in the first two seasons of Umbrella Academy now on Netflix.
