Fans of the newest dystopian flick on Netflix are convinced that Tally's endgame is not in the canonical love triangle she's stuck in. According to Uglies fans, Tally's on-screen chemistry lies best with a newfound friend in the Smoke.

In the original novel series by Scott Westerfeld, Tally (played by Joey King) is stuck in a love triangle between David (Keith Powers) from the "Pretties" rebellion, The Smoke, and leader of the Crims, Zane, who has yet to be introduced in the adaptation.

Considering how dystopian romances go, Tally ending up with David makes the most sense. However, the fans who have seen (and read) Uglies beg to differ.

Unlike what the movie and the books wanted them to root for, Uglies fans fall for a potential romantic interest who was never on the roster: Shay (Brianne Tju).

When Tally's best friend-turned-stranger Peris (Chase Stokes) leaves her to become one of the "pretties" on her 16th birthday, she spends more time with Shay planning their escape from the system and joining The Smokes.

They train on using the hoverboard and as it turns out, they share pretty much a lot in common. As Shay noted, how come it took them too long to be friends in the first place? They only met each other before they turned sixteen.

To original book readers of Uglies, Tally and Shay's friendship felt more than a platonic relationship, even in Westerfeld's written pages, it would seem.

Not to mention, Tally wouldn't have discovered the truth behind their society if Shay hadn't taken her to see the truth about The Smokes' existence and goal.

Needless to say, if fans and showrunners are looking for a reason to adapt the rest of the novel series, one thing the Netflix movies should include is the development of Tally and Shay's "friendship"/potential relationship.
