Twitch Suspends Apex Legends Cosplayer For Putting On Blackface

Twitch is a place where people like to see others watch specials or play video games, so it was a bit disturbing when Apex Legends fan and cosplayer Karupups essentially put on blackface during a session of the game. This was seen as pretty controversial by many for obvious reasons and the streamer was suspended for 30 days, which has been seen as either an appropriate punishment or too harsh by the community.

On an email sent to Kotaku, Karupups attempted to explain herself, showing the difficulties of preparing for a cosplay. Still, most would agree that putting on a black face (which can be seen on her VK page) was a bit much since she could have easily just worn the character's clothes. For those not in the know, she was cosplaying as Lifeline, who is a black character in the game.

Karupups did issue an apology, saying that she just wanted to portray her favorite Apex Legends character but is sorry to anyone who was hurt by her actions. Why she thought it was a good idea in the first place is a bit mind-boggling but hey, people make mistakes. When the 30 days eventually come up, here is hoping that she doesn't do anything similar in the future.
