TVING and Paramount+ Kdrama series Bargain received an invitation to the annual Canneseries in Cannes, France.

Every April of each year, Canneseries welcomes series from all over the globe before the scheduled Cannes International Film Festival in May. This year, the Cannes International Series Festival invited a Korean drama series for the first time.

Bargain Director, Cast Members Talk About Feeling Pressure After Canneseries' Invitation

The Canneseries officially invited the Kdrama series, marking the first time a Korean-language flick entered the festival. Bargain also became the first original series made by a domestic streaming service to earn recognition from the prestigious event.

On Sunday, the main cast members of the series appeared in an online group interview (via Korea JoongAng Daily) while they stay in France alongside the Bargain director.

According to Jin Seon Kyu, coming to Cannes for their drama felt "unreal."

"I think that it is very meaningful that we have been invited here as part of the first Korean drama series invited to Canneseries. We are nominated in five categories right now, and I hope we do end up winning something to be able to celebrate this feat," the actor went on.

The record-breaker is currently up to bring home awards, including Special Interpretation Award, Best Performance, Best Screenplay, Best Music, and Best Series. It is vying for recognition against 10 other competitors.

Meanwhile, Chang Ryul noted that fans asked for their autographs after seeing them arrive at Cannes. From there, they reportedly felt the power of Korean content overseas.

Bargain Creators Experimented with the Original Short Film

Bargain tells the story of a human organ trafficking ring and the victims who fortunately escape because of a sudden earthquake. The original series was created on the 14-minute short film by director Lee Chung Hyun.

According to the cast members, the series was able to score Canneseries' invitation by "employing a highly risky and experimental way of filming." The team made it using a one-take method and showed almost no divisions or cuts between the shots.

The method allowed the creators to follow the cast members as they acted in different backgrounds and sequences. With that, it left no room for mistakes for them.

The winners will be announced on April 19.
