One of the coolest things we got to see in The Last of Us Episode 8 was Troy Baker, who originally played Joel in the Naughty Dog games. However, Baker plays a completely different character in the HBO series. But what does the original Joel actor think about Pedro Pascal's version of the game character? Baker shared his honest thoughts about Pascal's performance.
Troy Baker recently spoke to GamesRadar where he discussed his new character's debut in The Last of Us Episode 8. Not surprisingly, he was asked about his thoughts on Pedro Pascal's Joel and Baker got honest with his feedback.
"What I love is that you don't necessarily think Pedro Pascal, but the second that you mention the name, you go, 'Okay, okay, I can see that'. And then you see him as Joel, and then you watch him as Joel. And what it showed me was that thankfully this character is bigger than any one performance," he said.
"If it had just been like, I'm the only one who could do it, then we didn't do a good enough job," Baker continued. "This character needs to be bigger than one actor. And thankfully, not only Pedro, but Bella as well as - as well as the rest of our cast - shows that this story, these characters, are bigger than just one version."
It's certainly an interesting reaction to Pedro Pascal's performance as Joel. Nevertheless, we're glad that Troy Baker approves of how the former Game of Thrones star brought his character to life.
In The Last of Us Episode 8, Troy Baker was introduced as James, the right-hand man to David, a preacher who leads a cannibalistic group. Although the character appears in the original game, James was a minor character who didn't get enough screen time.
The Last of Us Episode 8 is titled When We Are in Need and is now streaming on HBO Max.
