In case you missed it, Disney is currently developing a third TRON film and while we still know very little about the project, it was revealed a few months back that it will be headlined by Jared Leto in a yet-to-be-disclosed role. Now, the film's producers are reportedly looking to pull out the big guns once again for the third film rumored to be titled TRON: Ares.

A new rumor from insider Daniel Richtman (via Patreon) suggests that veteran actor Jeff Bridges, who starred in the first two installments of the sci-fi franchise — 1982's Tron and 2010's TRON: Legacy is being eyed to make his franchise return, presumably to reprise his role as Kevin Flynn. However, it's worth noting that the Iron Man star recently revealed his cancer diagnosis and that could play a major factor in his chances of being able to take on the role.

Initially, we had no idea whether the upcoming project will be a reboot or a completely new offering but now, Bridges' alleged involvement in the film definitely means that they'll pick up where Legacy left off. Hopefully, this new installment in the franchise will be able to reinvigorate the TRON series because let's face it, Legacy is nowhere near the original. Let's see how they'll do things differently this time around.

TRON: Ares is slated for release in 2022.
