Train to Busan: Peninsula Won't Be A Sequel, New Details Revealed

Train to Busan director Yeon Sang-ho has been developing a follow-up to his 2016 Korean zombie film, titled Peninsula, and although it's already being billed as the sequel, the director told ScreenDaily that Peninsula isn't actually a sequel, but it will be set in the same universe.

"Peninsula is not a sequel to Train To Busan because it's not a continuation of the story, but it happens in the same universe," the director said.

It looks like they're expanding the zombie-infested world that Train to Busan introduced, and with twice the budget of the first film, Peninsula is expected to bigger.

ScreenDaily also shared a new synopsis of the film:

Peninsula takes place four years after the outbreak of zombies that were chasing protagonists on a train speeding south to Busan. The Korean peninsula is devastated and Jung-seok, a former soldier who has managed to escape overseas, is given a mission to go back and unexpectedly meets up with survivors.

Peninsula is currently in post-production, and is already set to be distributed for theatrical release in the U.S. and other countries around the world.

No release dates have been announced for Peninsula yet, but it was previously said that the film will be ready by Summer 2020.
