Toy Story 4 Delay Due to Pixar Throwing Out 75% of the Original Script

There was an eleven-year gap between Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3, and though we are getting a fourth one in the franchise, we'll have waited almost a decade when Toy Story 4 comes out. What is it with these delays?

Annie Potts, who plays Bo Peep, told Radio Times that the delay was due to trouble with the script. She says:

"[Toy Story 4] was supposed to come out this year and then they threw out three-quarters of it and rewrote. Usually, it takes – from start to finish – two years. But because they threw most of it in the bin and started over [my time on the project has] been extended a little bit. I've done a lot of work on it."

Toy Story 4 was originally announced for a release in 2017, but multiple reworks of the script have delayed the movie to next year. Last year, we got even got news that screenwriters Rashida Jones and Will McCormack had left the project due to creative differences. At least this time, it looks like Pixar has a script that they can work with.

Personally, I thought that Toy Story 3 already put a nice cap on the story of Andy's toys, but I also have enjoyed their little misadventures under the ownership of Bonnie. I'm just curious on what kind of ride they have in store for this fourth movie. I wouldn't want it to end up like Finding Dory.

Toy Story 4 comes out June 20, 2019.
