Tom Holland Regrets Not Getting Andrew Garfield's Blessing Before Taking Spider-Man Role

Tom Holland is the current Spider-Man and it's a role that he takes very seriously. This is evident in his performances in the three Spider-Man films so far but it looks like there is one thing that Holland somehow regrets these days. The Uncharted star just admitted that he wishes he had asked for Andrew Garfield's blessing before taking the role of Peter Parker!

It's no secret that Andrew Garfield was the reigning Spider-Man before it was announced that Marvel Studios will reintroduce the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It didn't take long before Tom Holland was chosen for the role and it looks like the Avengers: Infinity War star wanted to talk to Garfield before taking the role.

Holland recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter where he confessed that he was thrilled to work with Garfield on Spider-Man: No Way Home because it gave him the chance to do something he wasn't able to do before accepting the role.

“Something I can look back on now with a little bit of clarity and regret is that I never called [Garfield] when I took over as Spider-Man. Had someone said to me after my second movie that I was done and this other kid was taking over, I would’ve been heartbroken. So looking back, I wish I had the chance to make amends with him, but this film was our opportunity,” Holland said.

He continued by pointing out that No Way Home also gave Garfield the chance to redeem the character's portrayal in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

“It was not only an opportunity for him to make peace with the character and the studio, but it was also an opportunity for me and him to have this moment where we realize we could share this thing. The look on his face when he saves Zendaya [MJ] is totally genuine, and I’m really proud of him,” Holland said.

We're certainly glad that Holland got to talk to Garfield about taking the role. In addition to that, it is heartwarming that Garfield's character got the second chance he never had.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is still screening in theaters.
