Tom Holland opens up about how Robert Downey Jr. became his real-life mentor in entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since Marvel Studios wouldn't be able to produce any more Spider-Man films, Holland has been receiving questions mostly about the situation.

Amidst all of this, Holland might have handled this quite well with the help of Robert Downey Jr. who has been his on-and-off-screen mentor. In fact, in Holland's recent Instagram post, he shared photos of the two of them hiking together. The photos were posted in the middle of all the talks on Sony and Marvel, perhaps to cheer the fans up.

It is obvious that the two have made a strong bond and Holland expands on this topic during his panel at the FanX 2019 last Sept. 6 (via Ammaross Danan's coverage on YouTube).

"The amazing thing about RDJ is that he's arguably the most famous movie star on the planet. But, he's always early, he knows every crew member's name, he always knows his lines. He's professional, he's kind, he's caring," Holland says as he describes how humble Robert Downey Jr. is in real life despite his striking popularity.

He even mentioned a story on his first day where he "was sick on set" and that he didn't "even know the guy" but Holland revealed that Downey was the first one to approach him and proceeded to say "‘Come to my trailer and I'll make you feel better."

Holland stated how Downey just casually talked to him even though they weren't even close yet and how he "took him under his wing a little bit".

"Entering the Marvel Universe is daunting, it's a big process. I mean, sitting in front of 5,000 people, this is something you normally do," Holland adds which shows how much Downey could be of help to him as a mentor as he has been doing this for years.

He ended his story with the statement, "The thing I've learned from him, [Chris] Evans, Scarlet [Johansson] is that just because you're at the top, doesn't mean you can be a dick."

Holland was awed with Downey's modesty off-set despite his popularity and success. Having starred in nine movies that weren't included in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's just right to have Downey be Holland's mentor, especially amidst the Sony and Disney dispute that resulted to Spider-Man being no longer apart of the MCU.
