Tom Hiddleston Reveals Why He Lost Thor Role to Chris Hemsworth

It's no secret that Tom Hiddleston originally auditioned for the role of Thor in the Kenneth Branagh film. But why wasn't the Loki star cast as the God of Thunder? Hiddleston has just revealed the real reason why he lost the lead role to Chris Hemsworth.

Hiddleston was recently featured in the latest episode of Disney's Untold where he shared a bit about the audition process on the 2011 film.

"There was at one point in the training -- there was a board, I think in the stunt gym, there was like a thing of 1,000 meters on the rowing machine, 100 pull-ups, 100 push-ups, and 100 squats, and doing it for time," Hiddleston said. He then revealed that Hemsworth pretty much dominated the board.

"Chris Hemsworth would put his time on the board. And I thought, 'OK, I'll give that a go,'" Hiddleston said with a laugh. Unfortunately, he didn't do as well as his Thor: Ragnarok co-star.

"I didn't get past 15 pull-ups, so that's the reason he was cast as Thor," Hiddleston concluded.

Of course, there were other reasons why Hemsworth was ultimately chosen as the God of Thunder. Luckily, Branagh was determined to keep Hiddleston in the project and chose to cast the Avengers: Endgame star as the God of Mischief. The rest, as they say, is history.

Hiddleston's Loki has gone on to become one of the most popular Marvel Cinematic Universe characters. Fans would beg for the God of Mischief to show up in every possible MCU project and mourned when the character was killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. However, this wasn't the end for Loki who got his own Disney+ show.

Loki has been confirmed for a second season with Hiddleston returning as the God of Mischief. However, Season 2 has not yet been an official production start date nor an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
