Todd Phillips’ Joker Movie to Film in New York This September

DC made headlines when it was announced that they would produce a Joker movie outside of the established DCEU timeline, but what we didn't know was that the movie could start production in a few months.

As per Omega Underground, Todd Phillips' Joker film is aiming to start shooting this September in New York. The movie seeks to tell a gritty origin of the Joker apart from the Jared Leto version we got in the DCEU, and Joaquin Phoenix will be taking on the lead role of the Clown Prince of Crime,

It's also worth noting that Martin Scorsese is attached as the movie's producer, and the film is also said to be aiming for a tone that's similar to Scorsese's previous work on Raging Bull and Taxi Driver.

With the alternate timeline being established, WB is said to be labeling these spinoff movies as DC Dark or DC Black. I'm just crossing my fingers that they just rebrand it DC Elseworlds, so as not to put themselves in a creative corner. The title would be familiar to longtime fans, and it also opens doors for alternate universes like Superman Red Son and Kingdom Come.

Though I was initially worried about this announcement for a Joker movie, I'm slowly warming up to the idea of alternate timeline spinoff films. Though Marvel is the dominant one in the box office now, they haven't tried anything as ballsy as an alternate universe yet.

No release date has been set for the Joker movie, but some speculate that the film could come out next year.
