Tim Burton Reveals Why He Keeps Working with Johnny Depp

If there's one thing that we have come to expect in Tim Burton films, it's the fact that Johnny Depp is sure to be in them. But why does the Nightmare Before Christmas producer insist on casting Depp in almost all of his projects? Burton offered a cool explanation for their frequent collaborations.

Tim Burton recently spoke to Deadline about his amazing career and not surprisingly, the fact that he always works with Johnny Depp was brought up. Interestingly, Burton stated that it is something that naturally happened right from the start.

“I first met him when I did Edward Scissorhands. He was a bit similar to me, kind of suburban, white trash, whatever – we connected on some kind of level,” Burton said. He then added the connection would lead to frequent collaborations.

“It wasn’t even a verbal understanding, it was just somebody I could feel liked to do characters, who was interested in acting for the art of it and not so much for the business of it. He was somebody who would play Scissorhands or Edward [in Edward Wood] and all these different things,” he said.

Johnny Depp's keen interest in the characters Tim Burton present to him made the director eager to keep working with him.

“That’s always exciting to see someone play different things rather than being one thing from one film to another and his transformation from film to film has always excited me,” Burton said.

Johnny Depp has worked on eight movies with Tim Burton starting with Edward Scissorhands in 1990. The last film they collaborated in was 2012's Dark Shadows. However, there is a huge chance we'll get to see another collaboration between the two in the future. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
