Thunderbolts Star David Harbour Says Red Guardian is 'An Idiot'

We already learned that Alexei Shoskatov will be back in Marvel's Thunderbolts and it looks like we'll finally get to see a different side of Red Guardian. Stranger Things star David Harbour teased Alexei's future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film despite the character being "an idiot."

David Harbour recently spoke to The Playlist where he discussed his hopes for Red Guardian in Thunderbolts.

"I'd like to see him be a little bit more of a badass as well," Harbour said. "I'd like to see those fighting skills, which we see a little bit with Taskmaster, but, as messed up as he is, he does have the super serum, and he knows this Russian Sambo technique, and I think we could see a lot more color in that department in terms of his range as a fighter. And I'd like to see where he can go now that he's out of prison and he's got more hope for his life, like who he might become. There's a lot of potential and a lot of opportunity."

Harbour then pointed out that he is excited to see what happened to Alexei after the events in Black Widow.

"It's so interesting to think about where [Red Guardian] ends up at the end of Black Widow after his story is complete and what happens to him after he's out of prison. Where does he go?" he said. Harbour also added that he is looking forward to working with Black Widow co-star Florence Pugh in the upcoming MCU flick.

"To reconnect with Florence is going to be great as well," he said. "And also, I would like to see, because he is an idiot and he is an egomaniac – all that stuff, but he does have this fire in him, and I think he could rise to certain occasions if given the chance."

We're certainly looking forward to seeing Alexei reunited with Yelena Belova. With that in mind, Thunderbolts is the one Marvel film we can't wait to see next year.

Thunderbolts will also star Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr aka Ghost, Wyatt Russell as John Walker aka U.S. Agent, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, and Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov / Taskmaster. They will be joined by Harrison Ford who is taking over the role of Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross.

The Thunderbolts movie is currently scheduled for theatrical release on July 26, 2024.
