According to a petition on (via CNN), thousands have signed on to have a statue of Boseman replace a confederate monument in downtown Anderson. The petition writes that the monument should be placed inside a museum rather than be displayed for people to see. The description goes on:

"I believe the community should come together to honor someone from Anderson, South Carolina that was able to change the movie industry. He opened many doors for many young black people with his leading roles in movies such as Black Panther or Marshall. It is only natural that his hometown honors what he did. There is no need for political controversy in this decision."

As of now, the petition has surpassed 14,000 signatures, and there looks to be more underway. The petition is actually addressed to the Mayor of Anderson as well as some other local representatives, but there hasn't been any official response yet.

I think it's actually a great idea, what with Boseman definitely leaving an iconic legacy, opening doors for more actors of color. With there being some controversy about tearing down confederate monuments, it's actually interesting that the petition would go so far as to say that they should put it in a museum rather than completely destroy it.

We don't know if Anderson will get their Chadwick Boseman statue, but hopefully, the local government gives their reply soon.
