Thor: The Dark World Had a Very Different Ending That Was Filmed and Edited

While not a horrible movie, Thor: The Dark World is often considered to be one of the weaker MCU films. It only improved a bit on the original Thor but was still considered bland and a bit dull, especially the movie's villain Malekith. The ending, which had Loki impersonate Odin and rule over Asgard for a while, was also too choreographed since they included a scene where the God of Mischief recovered from his "death."

It turns out that a Thor: The Dark World alternate ending was filmed, shot, and fixed before they decided to make an entirely new one. This alternate ending can be seen in its entirety if you buy the Infinity Saga box-set, which has all of the MCU films until Avengers: Endgame. Now, here's what the alternate ending is.

Apparently, this alternate ending had Thor almost die during his battle with Malekith and the Convergence. While he does wake up on Earth, Thor is surprised to see himself under his father's care, who feared for his son's health. Odin also got to know Natalie Portman's Jane Foster and he commends Thor for getting himself a great woman.

However, Jane and Thor end up breaking up after the battle since it took its toll on both of them. Plus, they both have different commitments, with Thor having to help rule Asgard with Odin while Jane still has work to do with her scientist friends. They go their separate ways and we don't see Loki at all.

This alternate ending to Thor: The Dark World is fascinating and we would have liked to see it, maybe with an additional Loki scene. As it stands, we can only wish we saw this. Both The Dark World and Marvel's Infinity Saga can now be bought in Blu-Ray stores.
