Thor: Ragnarok’s Taika Waititi Mocks Lucasfilm’s Habit Of Splitting With Directors

It looks like Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi's isn't interested in joining the fray for Star Wars: Episode IX.

Yesterday, word came out that Lucasfilm decided to part ways with Episode IX director, Colin Trevorrow. Just like the studio's separation with Han Solo directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller back in June, Lucasfilm decided to end things with the Jurassic World director after it felt like it couldn't find a way to weave its vision for Episode IX along with Trevorrow's.

Ever since the announcement, fans have been suggesting replacements for the project, and one decided to bring up the matter to Waititi on Twitter. Responding to the suggestion, Waititi instead went for a funny jab at Lucasfilm's trend of ditching directors, saying that he'd like to complete his films and that he'd probably be "fired within a week" if he managed to get the project.

Waititi is certainly being vocal about Lucasfilm's troubles with directors. However, while the Marvel director's tweets might sour his chances at getting in the Star Wars franchise in the future, it seems like the filmmaker has little interest joining Lucasfilm's roster of directors, knowing that it has difficulty settling "creative differences."

Waititi is a director that enjoys his creative freedom (look at the liberties he's taking with Thor: Ragnarok) and right now he seems to be pretty happy where he is with Marvel.

Thor: Ragnarok hits cinemas November 3, 2017.
