Thor: Ragnarok Producer On Hela Possibly Being In Avengers Infinity War

Cate Blanchett is playing the Asgardian Goddess of Death Hela in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok, and a lot of fans are guessing that Hela will be a stand-in for Thanos' lover in Avengers: Infinity War. Ragnarok producer Brad Winderbaum talks Hela and her possibly appearing in Infinity War in 2018.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Winderbaum discusses:

"Obviously we always think about the movies as standalones, even if they do set up a movie down the road or pay off something from a previous film. What we hope, if we do our jobs right, is that Hela is one of the best villains we've had – maybe the best, hopefully,"

Cate has been delivering an incredible performance. She's really scary and really charming. She's very easy to watch, very fun to be around. But very murderous and horrible at the same time. You're right that those are things that Thanos values. But when and how she plays into the future of the universe is uncertain now."

In the comics, Thanos literally kills half of the universe because he is in love with the actual personification of Death. Since the concept could be a bit too farfetched in the MCU, having Hela stand-in as Thanos love interest would make a lot of sense—plus it allows Marvel to give their villains time to develop.

Though Marvel Studios has been making box office hit after hit, a common critique could be that they don't know how to write their villains. Aside from Loki, each MCU villain usually has paper-thin motivation with an appearance that only lasts one film. Hopefully things will start to change moving forward.

Thor: Ragnarok is set for a release on Nov. 3, and Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters May 4, 2018.
