Thor: Ragnarok Producer Explains The Planet Hulk Rumors

It looks like Marvel fans are going to get their taste of that rumored Planet Hulk comicbook movie through Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok.

Though it won't be the same full Hulk movie that was rumored back in 2013, Marvel producers have long since planned to integrate pieces of the comicbook story into Ragnarok. Speaking in an interview with ComicBook on the set of Ragnarok, producer Brad Winderbaum explained how Hulk ended up joining the film.

"I mean, it was a very early idea. In the earliest development of Thor, we were looking at ‘Planet Hulk' as inspiration, maybe not even to integrate the Hulk into the franchise but the idea of a planet where there's gladiatorial games as being a Thor predicament. It really was a cool idea to us.

Somewhere in the early conversations, when it looked like it was going that way, it was a no brainer. It actually started off as like, ‘…could we have Hulk in there too?' And then as soon as that spark ignited, it ignited kind of an idea machine. And suddenly [Hulk] was married to the plot."

Of course, it's impossible to think of integrating elements of Planet Hulk without adding in Hulk in, and while fans might be disappointed that Doc Green won't be getting his own standalone film, this dynamic between Chris Hemsworth's Thor and Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner seems to add a lot of color to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Thor: Ragnarok hits cinemas November 3, 2017.
