Thor Love and Thunder's Taika Waititi To Join James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad

It was recently announced that James Gunn's The Suicide Squad has cast Nathan Fillion, but seeing that Fillion has been in every one of Gunn's latest films, it didn't really come as a surprise. What is a surprise though, is that an MCU director could be joining Gunn's DCEU film.

According to Deadline, Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi is currently in talks to join The Suicide Squad. No details have been revealed about the role, but I imagine it's going to be a small voice role; Waititi does provide the voice (and mo-cap) for Korg in the MCU, and he's also voicing the bounty hunter droid IG-11 in Disney+'s The Mandalorian. With him prepping for his next movie Next Goal Wins, I imagine he only has time for a voice cameo.

Then again, Waititi can be quite the character actor. Aside from directing, he's also played some fun roles in his own films. This is him as a silly priest in Hunt for the Wilderpeople:

Hopefully, we get details on Waititi's role soon, but it would also be fun just to have his appearance as a surprise. Maybe his character could appear alongside Nathan Fillion's, who is said to be playing a minimal role as well.

I think it's pretty cool that collaboration with Waititi and Gunn could work out. Maybe Gunn can actually have a physical role when it comes to Thor: Love and Thunder. All we can really do as fans are to wait and see.

If the talks push through, Waititi would be joining a cast that already includes the likes of Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, and David Dastmalchian.

Catch The Suicide Squad when it hits theaters Aug. 6, 2021. Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters Nov. 5 of the same year.
