Thor: Love and Thunder Would Explore a Side of Thor Fans Have Never Seen

Director Taika Waititi has reinvented the Thor franchise ever since he helmed 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, highlighting Thor's surprising humorous side that the fans have wholly adored. Now, for Thor: Love and Thunder, he will introduce another Thor that is extremely surprising for the fans.

"I wanted to show him in a light that most Thor fans wouldn't really want if you were to tell them," Waititi told Associated Press. "If you were to say them: 'Yeah, I'm going to make Thor in love,' it's probably the last thing that a Thor fan really wants to hear."

The Mighty Thor in love? That's intriguing, and that's certainly something we never anticipated seeing in a Thor film. With Natalie Portman's return as Jane Foster wielding Mjolnir, Thor would certainly get mesmerized.

However, in a recent interview, Waititi hinted at an emotional ending for the film. Talking about the "satisfying" ending, “I wanted to lean in a little more with the drama in this film, and with some of the more emotional aspects. In my films, I really love when people laugh and cry, and I don’t think people cried in Ragnarok,” Waititi told Empire Magazine.

Does that mean that Thor will get his first heartbreak from Jane Foster? Or more sadly, it looks like Foster will face an unfortunate fate at the end of the film, especially now that the cancer storyline for Portman's Lady Thor is seemingly confirmed.

Nevertheless, it's good to know that Waititi is exploring distinct approaches for the Thor character. Seeing the same approach for the franchise wouldn't surely work, and even Hemsworth recently unveiled that he got bored from 2013's Thor: The Dark World. When Waititi arrived, Hemsworth’s enthusiasm for playing Thor went back, and he even said that he won't possibly return if the director wouldn't helm the film.

Thor: Love and Thunder will premiere in theaters on July 8.
