Thor: Love And Thunder Star Christian Bale Reveals Surprising Inspiration for Gorr the God Butcher

One of the biggest things about Thor: Love and Thunder is the fact that it features an Academy Award winner as the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe supervillain. Christian Bale is known for completely immersing himself in the roles he plays and his transformation as Gorr the God Butcher has been met with mixed reactions.

But how did Bale prepare to play this particular character? Interestingly, the Dark Knight Returns star told Total Film that there were a couple of unusual influences behind his portrayal of Gorr and director Taika Waititi just happens to be one of them.

"Mostly hearing Taika's thoughts on it," Bale said. "There's obviously sort of a Nosferatu slight attitude."

He then added that he and Waititi got some inspiration through music. "Taika and I wanted to do a whole dance, which we didn't get to do, but we had all this sort of Kate Bush stuff that we worked at. But I think he just realised he was never going to be allowed to put that in the final film," Bale said.

Amazingly, he added that one of the most iconic (and terrifying) music videos from the 90s played a key role in his portrayal of Gorr.

"I would say that the most common thing I was staring at was the Aphex Twin video of Come To Daddy. But I don't even know if that will be in the final film," Bale said.

We're not surprised that Bale went for the downright terrifying inspiration but we're expecting Waititi to make sure Thor: Love and Thunder isn't going to be too scary for viewers.

Thor: Love and Thunder also stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, and Jaimie Alexander. The film will finally hit theaters on July 8, 2022.
