Thor: Love and Thunder's Screaming Goats Were Inspired by a Taylor Swift Song

One of the highlights of Thor: Love and Thunder is the screaming goats. For better or worse, they served as the comic relief of the film and there are people who consider them as one of the standouts despite being a simple recurring gag. So you might be wondering, what led to the creation of the scene-stealing pair? As it turns out, it looks like we have to thank a certain Taylor Swift song.

In a recent interview with Insider, director Taika Waititi shared some behind-the-scenes details on the creation of the screaming goats in which he revealed that they were not originally "meant to be screaming" and it was only added in post-production after someone suggested the infamous goat remix of Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble" meme that eventually inspired their sound.

"They were never meant to be screaming," Waititi said. "The goats were always going to be in there because they are in the comics, but we didn't know how they would sound. Then someone in post-production found this meme of a Taylor Swift song that has screaming goats in it. I didn't even know that existed. So I hear the screaming goats and I just felt it was awesome. A lot of people think it's me screaming. It's not."

He added, "I think one of the vendors that was making the CG goats, they just added the Taylor Swift song 'I Knew You Were Trouble,' but the fan-made one with the goat sounds, and we just thought it was so funny. So it was just a shot of how the CG creatures were coming along, it wasn't meant for the film or anything, it was just an update. And the screams were freakin' awesome."

It is interesting to find out that the infamous Swift meme led to the creation of the screaming goats. Who knew that a meme that some guy created back in 2013 would lead to scene-stealing characters in a Marvel movie. Whether you like the recurring gag or not, you do have to acknowledge that it was an easy standout among some of the audience.

It would be curious to see whether the screaming goats will show up in the next Thor film or whenever there's an upcoming MCU project that is set in New Asgard. After being the standouts in Love and Thunder, it might be inevitable for them to show up again although it remains to be seen whether the gag will wear off.
