Natalie Portman Wants Thor: Love and Thunder to Tackle the Breast Cancer Storyline

Natalie Portman's Jane Foster had been gone since Thor: The Dark World, but she's going to be making a return in Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder. With Foster's Thor having a tragic origin in the comics, Portman talks about the possibility of the movie adapting that storyline.

Talking to Variety, Portman says she's all up for Love and Thunder giving Jane breast cancer. Portman explains, "It's just very rare that these kinds of big entertainment films look at more serious, real-life issues."

In the comics, Jane was actually diagnosed with breast cancer, and she was given the powers of Thor in order to survive. We don't know exactly what Waititi plans to do with his film, and apparently, neither does Portman. She continued, "I really don't know anything about it. I haven't seen anything, but I've heard the same rumors as you have, and it's exciting to think about."

If you ask me, Waititi should totally go for the storyline, and it might add some much-needed gravitas to his Thor films. While Ragnarok was fun, I would have preferred it to have some more serious moments. I really liked the drama between Thor, Odin, and Loki in the first film, and even The Dark World had a fantastic sequence for Frigga's funeral.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set for a release on Nov. 5, 2021. You can catch Taika Waititi's Jojo Rabbit in theaters today.
