One of the best things about Avengers: Infinity War was the unexpected friendship between Thor and Rocket Raccoon. Although the cool duo, along with Teen Groot, eventually took the fight to Wakanda, an amazing concept art reveals that they almost went up against a terrifying Ragnarok creature.
In Infinity War, Rocket and Groot joined Thor on his search for Nidavellir to create a new weapon that can defeat Thanos. They were lucky since they only found the lone Eitri on the planet. After all, the original concept art for the scene featured a pair of giant snakes that could be the MCU's version of the Midgard Serpent.
The image was featured in the new book The Art of Avengers: Infinity War which shows off awesome concept art that was never used in the film (via ComicBook.com). Take a look at Thor and Rocket in action below.

The Midgard Serpent is also known as Jörmungandr or the World Serpent that is wrapped around Earth by biting its tail. In Norse mythology, Jörmungandr kicks off Ragnarok when the serpent releases its tail and engages Thor in an epic battle.
This didn't happen in Thor: Ragnarok but it's possible that Jörmungandr almost ended up playing a major role in Infinity War. The Marvel Cinematic Universe may have changed things up about the serpent since there's only one really massive one in mythology. It would have been interesting to see Thor and Rocket go up against the creature.
The Art of Avengers: Infinity War was released on November 6. Thor and Rocket will return in Avengers 4, which is scheduled for release on May 3, 2019.
