Thor 4 Merch Reveals New Name for Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie

It goes without saying that Tessa Thompson was one of the best things about 2017's Thor: Ragnarok and despite having minimal involvement in Avengers: Endgame, the Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster pretty much laid out the foundation for what fans can expect with her character Valkyrie moving forward. Now, with Thor: Love and Thunder just a few months away, we can confirm that Valkyrie will indeed be playing a larger role in the franchise.

Back in 2019, it was teased that the upcoming Thorquel will fully explore her sexual identity which is already no secret to a lot of fans. True to form, Valkyrie will carry the banner of the LGBTQ+ community, and according to a new LEGO set for the film, Thor's trusty ally will officially be assuming an upgraded position in Asgard along with a brand new moniker — King Valkyrie.

Of course, this shouldn't come as a surprise considering how Odinson handed over the reins to her in Endgame but it's still a monumental feat for the MCU to be embracing an openly gay superhero apart from Eternals' Phastos. Check it out here:

There's no denying that Love and Thunder is looking incredibly stacked and it'll be interesting to see how Taika Waititi has managed to squeeze all of the subplots for the film without making it feel too overcrowded. I guess we'll just have to wait and see but judging by his first MCU venture, I don't think he'll let all of us down.

Marvel Studios' Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled to hit cinemas on July 8, 2022.
