Thor 4 Director Taika Waititi Gives Natalie Portman’s Thor Her Official Superhero Name

Last weekend during its Hall H Panel at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con International, Marvel surprised fans by announcing Natalie Portman's return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this time as Jane Foster's version of Thor.

The news came as quite a shock to many. No one was expecting Jane to return to the franchise – the last time we got to see Thor's former lover was in Thor: The Dark World.

Now, as fans continue to chatter away about the MCU's female Thor, Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi has decided to shed a little light on Jane Foster's new role, confirming her MCU superhero name.

Responding to a fan commenting on how Foster should go by Female Thor, the critically-acclaimed filmmaker decided to make a stand, saying that Jane would be called "Mighty Thor" in his new movie.

It's a pretty cool name and one that has its comic book roots. In the Mighty Thor comic book series, Marvel readers get to see a cancer-inflicted Jane Foster wield Mjolnir to become Thor. Jane does her best fighting as Thor, saving lives and winning battles despite the fact that the transformation to Thor worsens her condition.

Of course, Thor: Love and Thunder will still have Chris Hemsworth's Thor – the only question is how involved he will be in Waititi's second Thor movie. Hemsworth is also set to appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 along with Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, and Pom Klementieff.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set for release on November 5, 2021.
