Theros Beyond Death Preview Reveals New MTG Saga Enchantment For Zombie Lovers

The next Magic: The Gathering set Theros Beyond Death is living up to its title by promising to bring back a lot of things back from the dead with the new Afterlife mechanic and Elspeth's story in the underworld, but what's a death-themed MTG expansion without the dead themselves?

Today, Wizards of the Coast has revealed "Tyramet Calls the Dead", a three-to-cast black saga enchantment card that can produce a 2/2 zombie token in the first two turns it comes into play if you can exile an enchantment or creature card from your graveyard. The third chapter rewards you for having zombies by letting you gain X life and Scry X, where X is the number of zombies you control. Check it out:

This card reminds us so much of "History of Benalia" from the Dominaria set because of how it produces a 2/2 creature for two turns but because of its conditional requirement to sacrifice a creature or encahantment in your graveyard, this card is clearly worse than that, but this could still be an effective sideboard against aggressive mono-red strategies since this provides early blockers and gains you life for having zombies.

Theros Beyond Death, the 83rd Magic: The Gathering expansion, is set to release on January 24, 2020. Prerelease events will take place on January 17-19.
