Star Wars: The Last Jedi might be enjoying great numbers at the box office while swimming in overwhelming positive critic reviews, however, Lucasfilm's latest sequel trilogy installment has also been suffering from a low audience score in Rotten Tomatoes.
Despite the divisive results on the review aggregation website's audience segment, it seems like a poll conducted by SurveyMonkeys (via Mashable) says that the film is actually enjoying a lot of support from the fanbase.
In its survey, SurveyMonkeys asked a sample size of 4,441 people from December 15-19 how they felt about The Force Awakens sequel, and according to the results 89% of the respondents either loved or at least liked The Last Jedi.
This percentage remains the same in cases when the respondents described themselves as "big" fans of the Star Wars franchise or whether they described themselves as casual viewers. According to the results of the poll, even 81% of the self-described non-Star Wars fans loved or liked The Last Jedi.
Dissecting their data even further, SurveyMonkys says that while 34% of the casual viewers loved the film rather than like it, 63% of the "hardcore" fans seemingly had strong feelings for the film.
Though some would like to argue that the online survey development service company's data doesn't show the complete picture, 4000 seems like a pretty decent number for a sample size and the results of sites like CinemaScore also seem to corroborate the love fans are showing for The Last Jedi.
Though this doesn't entirely mean that there aren't any fans who are disappointed by Rian Johnson's decision to tweak with the mythos of the Star Wars franchise and subvert expectations, it does indicate that there's a positive outlook for the franchise.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is currently screening in cinemas.
