While the first season was well-received by the viewers, one of the biggest complaints about Netflix's The Witcher is the confusion that comes with several timelines woven together. The multiple timelines saw the first season going back and forth between Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri's stories, making it a bit complicated to piece together. However, things will be done differently, as confirmed by The Witcher showrunner.

"Obviously, it was one of the most controversial parts of Season 1 and I didn't expect it to be as controversial as it was," showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich told The Wrap. "What's great though is they have intersected now. So what we'll see in Season 2 is that all of our characters are existing on the same timeline."

While the characters will now be on the same timeline, that doesn't mean that The Witcher is done messing around with elements related to time. "We get to do flashbacks, we get to do flash-forwards," she added. "We get to actually integrate time in a completely different way that we weren't able to do in Season 1."

The showrunner pointed out that if the first season was in three different timeless, flashing forward and back, there would have been four to six timelines, which Hissrich admits is "too much."

Since there's likely a new audience coming in, the showrunner says it'll be "a lot easier for the audience to follow and understand" the second season. That said, she teased that there'll still be "some fun challenges with time" on the show.

The Witcher Season 2 is set for release sometime in 2021.
